After watching the spectacular sunset over a lock gate, it was time for me to continue on my Friday evening commute back to Germany.

A broken down vehicle caused long delays on my weekday commute up the A34 from Winchester to Newbury this morning, so I drove along the back roads instead, stopping to take this photograph of the River Test in Longparish.
I actually stopped to avoid running over 5 pheasant that were standing in the middle of the narrow lane, but as soon as I got out of the car with my camera, the pheasant ran off into a nearby field, so I took these photographs instead !!
As every schoolboy in Winchester knows, William Walker (born William Robert Bellenie) was the diver famous for shoring up the southern and eastern sides of Winchester Cathedral between 1906 and 1911, working in water up to six metres deep and using more than 25,000 bags of concrete, 115,000 concrete blocks, and 900,000 bricks, which saved the Cathedral from collapsing and sinking slowly into the soft peat ground.

Amongst other places today, we went to the glassworks in Linz, where glass ornaments are made by hand, including these coloured balls.
After work this evening, I made a detour on my regular Friday evening drive from Newbury to Folkestone to collect my mother in Winchester, so that she could have a brief look at the area where I live in Germany over this weekend. 
There were road signs around Winchester stating that Peter Symonds College had an Open Day this evening, so I went along to revisit where I was a student from 1969 to 1976. Almost the only building that I reckognised was the old assembly hall.
This is just one of the many "new" buildings !!
No, I think I'm too old to be admitted now !!

I spent the day building a dividing wall in my garage today (so that the new tenants can have one of the four garage spaces), and took this photograph of one of their plants !!
