Yet another car accident ....

For the fifth time in as many months, someone smashed into the rear of the car that I was driving, this time it was in Al Ain !!

I was on a roundabout in the far right (outside) lane heading for the next exit, when a "Chicken Hut" delivery driver raced across from the far left (inside) lane to the far right lane, to take the exit that I was just passing.

He misjudged his speed and my position as he cut across two lanes into the lane that I was in, and when he hit the rear of my car, spun me around through 90 degrees.

It took him another 200 metres before he could finally stop his car.

  1. Your method of describing everything in this piece of writing is actually pleasant,
every one be capable of without difficulty understand it,
    Thanks a lot.

  2. The impact must’ve been that strong to send you spinning and damage your bumper that much! At least you weren’t hurt and that the guy who bumped into you still stopped. I hope you have an attorney who helped you with your insurance to settle for the damages.

    1. Hi Mike. Yes, I was driving at about 40 kp/h, the Nissan was doing about 80 kp/h when he rammed into the rear left corner of my car. I phoned for the Police, they finally arrived after over 1,5 hours, and the local driving the Nissan explained something to the Policeman in Arabic. I then explained what happened in English, but the Policeman couldn't understand me. Despite seeing exactly where both cars had stopped and the skid marks on the road from where the rear of my car had spun and slid sideways, the Policeman filled out the form stating that the accident was my fault .... apparently I shouldn't have got in the way of the car cutting across two lanes to exit the roundabout !!! The Policeman then went into the nearby Chicken Hut restaurant with the Nissan driver, presumably to collect his free food. Since the car I was driving was a rental, I had to pay the Dhs. 1000 excess on the insurance policy plus the Dhs. 300 for the police report .... but as you say, at least no-one was injured.

  3. Hi Dave! Although it is a great thing that you weren’t injured, I still think that it’s horrible that you were the one held liable for the accident. Although of course we can’t assume that the policeman was bribed by the other guy, the decision was still unjust. But there’s not really much you could do in a situation where you couldn’t be understood. I just hope you won’t encounter another accident like that.
